There is no costume >.<『blogtober 2014』

The last day of blogtober2014 is…of course, about Halloween!

Halloween Costume Reveal fail

Unfortunately, here in Germany where I live, Halloween is not really a thing that is celebrated like in the US or other parts of the world. Sure, there are a FEW parties where people try and get a Halloween feeling going, and every other year maybe one kid knocks on your door (For the past few years no one knocked at our door at Halloween though).

So, I don’t have a costume – thus, no costume reveal (a bad ending to blogtober14 I know >.<)

Instead I’ll leave you (and October) with a box of some Halloween Dunkin Donuts I bought and hope it’s a forgivable compromise

I can’t climb that pole!!『blogtober 2014』

Day 29 of blogtober2014 is about embarrassment

Most embarrasing moment
I thought about what to write for this prompt all day, and to be honest I couldn’t think of a really good story, or lots of embarrassing moments in my life. Sure, there were a few (everyone goes through some embarrassment in their life right?!), but my brain is pretty good in not keeping too many records of such situations – I like that.

There is one moment from my childhood that I found embarrassing and that I will remember forever. It’s an episode from gym/P.E. class, which was one of my LEAST favourite subject at school (not so much due to the physical effort involved as more due to the fact that we had to 1st class in every type of sport to get a good grade). There was one thing I hated most, because I just couldn’t do it: climbing up the pole! Yes, that was an exercise we had to do and got graded on during gym class in primary school. I tried it before, when no one was looking & on the playground so I KNEW FOR SURE I was not able to climb up that pole. Instead it would just hang on the bottom of the pole like a sack of potatoes. My gym teacher, she was an evil woman. I talked to her and told her that I can’t do it, I don’t know how to make my body work ina way that will enable me to climb up that pole. A good teacher would have maybe offered to stay for a few minutes after class and help me learn it a bit – NOT HER! She ordered me in front of the whole class to climb that stupid pole.

There I stood with all the other kids staring at me, already grinning cause they knew I fail so bad at this. When I think about that moment I can still feel the embarrassment I felt back then. I refused over and over again, telling her I don’t know how to climb up the pole. She then told me to go back to the dressing room and change (getting send out of class was a really bad thing, and I was never sent out of class ever before or again in my school life). So I stomped off, arms crossed angrily in front of my chest. Just before I went through the gym door, I turned around and stuck out my tongue to the teacher (It was such a rebel thing to do back then…. well, it was the only rebel thingI could think of and dared to do!) That of course had her coming after me to the dressing room and writing a note to my parents.

To this day I think that I was not in the wrong, that she was jut a horrible fail as a teacher alltogether for making me the laughing  stock of the class rather than helping me when I turned to her with my problem.

Superstition『blogtober 2014』

Day 28 of blogtober2014  is about superstiton.

Things you’re superstitious about
Not many, to be honest. I don’t fear fridays on the 13th of a month or black cats coming from the ride side (or was it left??). None of that scares me, so maybe superstition is not really something I believe in.

I do, however, believe in not wishing anything bad on anyone, not even my biggest enemies or the worst people in this world (I don’t really wish them anything good either though!!). That is the one point that always is in the back of my mind – making me think that if I would deliberately wish something bad on somebody, this very “thing” might happen to me or my loved ones.

So…Karma…yea, I do believe in Karma…in a way.

writing to my younger self『blogtober 2014』

On day 27 of blogtober2014 I will send something back in time

A letter to your younger self

Dear young Tina,
I know you and me, we don’t believe much in looking back in time and pondering about the fact what we could have done differently, so I don’t really want to send you a list of tips of what to do and what not to do. Every step, ever thing that happens in your life is connected to something else, and will lead you to other places (geographically & metaphorically speaking) and with your future unfolding and living your life you will see how everything play out.

I just want to remind you of one thing that I know deep down you already are doing: LISTEN TO YOUR INTUITION – your heart, your sould, your innermost voice. It is nearly always leading you to in a good direction, to an interesting path, with the right decisions for you. When you are in a situation where you are in doubt, or asking yourself what to do – take a step back, close your exyes, and listen to that intuition – then decide! And don’t spend another second pondering about it.

You will learn from experience and make your own decision as the years unfold. After all that’s what life is all about.

Sending you a warm hug from the future,
me (who is in a very happy personal place right now, so there is something you can look forward to in your future for sure 😉

Bookish『blogtober 2014』

Day 25 of blogtober2014 has me talking about books ❤

Your favourite book
Well, I really can not just name ONE favourite book. After all there are different genres, different languages, different moods I’m in to feel connected to a story etc. So I decided to make a little list of favourite books, yea?!

  • Children’s Books: Snow White & the seven dwarfs – my favourite fairy tale of all times since early childhood days
  • Young Adult: Das Lied der Träumerin by Tanya Stewner who usually writes children’s books, but has made a really good debut into the young adult genre with this book (unfortunately not translated into English yet).  It has music, love triangles, secrets, dark desires and a whole lot of “finding oneself” among the protagonists.
  • Dytopia: The Children of Men by P.D. James – Chilling, post-apocalyptic story that sucked me in from start to finish. So did the movie they made based on this book. I recommend both!
  • Women’s Fiction: Auf der anderen Seite ist das Gras viel Grüner by Kerstin Gier – If you could turn back time 5 years, would make the same decisions in your life, fall in love with the same person ??
  • Contemporary: Me Before You by Jojo Moyes – A story with characters so strong and vivid, they will stay with you for a long time after you finished reading. At least that’s how it was for me.
  • Fantasy: The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers – A must-read for everyone who loves books, reading and the suspense & excitement of immersing oneself in a fantastic story.
  • (Japanese) Classic: Botchan by Natsume Sôseki – a humorous Japanese classic by my favourite Japanese author, and just because the male protagonists reminds me a lot of myself 🙂

Not without my….『blogtober 2014』

Day 24 of blogtober2014 is about beauty-helpers.

One beauty product you can’t live without
I can totally live without beauty products, infact I am right now. A few weeks ago I buzzed off all my hair (just was in the mood and totally content with my decision), so I don’t even need to use a comb or brush at the moment. Now, once my hair grows back to a length where it needs to be combed/brushed, I will use my tangle teezer again. So if I would have to name something “beauty related” that I definitely use on a daily basis (once my hair gains length that is), I’d say: Tangle Teezer!

Since we’re on the subject of beauty products I just want to add that although I don’t use it daily and could very well live without it, the only beauty product I do use from time to time are nail-polish & lip stick. I have a variety of nail polish colours but as a new mom, rarely have time to sit down and do my nails properly. And I love to put on bright red lip stick if I go out to meet friends or on date night or something (also rather rare with a newborn/young baby)

Playing with pictures『blogtober 2014』

Day 23 of blogtober2014 is all about photo editing!

Favourite instagram editing apps or editing tools for your blog
I don’t use any editing tools for my blog, and only the original instagram and none of the instagram related apps. However I have a few other photo editing apps on my phone. Here are 4 apps I really like to use:
Foto

  • Pic Jointer is a really quick & easy to use app to put 2-4 pictures together in a collage
  • PCamera is the app I use to make really nice, wide (up to 360°) panoramic photos
  • masking tape has ahuge variety on different patterns of “tape” to decorate pictures (like ‘washi tape’ that is really popular among the filofax-crowd these days)
  • RealBokeh is another decorating app that lets you put shimmery hearts, circles, stars etc on your photos

What is your favourite photo editing app??
I’m always on the look for new ones to play with 🙂

My Pet Peeves 『blogtober 2014』

Day 22 of blogtober2014 and I’m talking about things that annoy me What are your pet peeves?

  • people eating on the go. I DO NOT MEAN enjoying a cone of ice cream or a cookie. I mean people eating a kebap or burger or a box of noodles etc. while walking Fast food doesn’t mean you have to gulp it down while running through the streets!
  • eating with your mouth open or chewing noises. Yes, another food/eating pet peeve that really gets me every time.
  • people cutting in line. Wether it’s a waiting line, or when stepping on to the bus or going through a door, it’s just rude to try and jump ahead (an pushing others aside in worst cases)
  • loud phone conversations in public. Everyone knows who I’m talking about. Those people in public places like trains, restaurants etc having super important and super long conversations on their phone, letting all surrounding people know what they’ll have for dinner or just how interesting their day/life is – no one cares, you are just annoying!
  • Smoking/inconsiderate smokers. Every since I suffered from a microplasma lung infection I can smell smokers from a mile away and at the same time I’m having trouble breathing. Now, if smokers would agree to smoke in the smoking-areas, we’d be fine, I can choose to not go there or go around and they can go do their thing. However, many smokers just don’t care about people who don’t like to inhale that dirt. Especially when I was pregnant, I encountered super rude smokers who would put on a cigarette at the bus stop right next to me. I tried asking them politely, but was told to “f*** off”.

I’m sure I could think of more pet peeves if I would give it another hour, but I’ll stop here 🙂
